Katherine Schirrmacher Autumn update 24/01/2007
As the new season comes its a time to gather our clan in our arms and give them a big hug for wearing our gear and shoes and at the same we also ask them what they've been up to in the dark autumn days!!!So this time it's Katherine Schirrmacher who's sending her story "Having climbed well in the Spring but badly for most of last Summer I re-found inspiration on a trip to Kalymnos in September. Despite the 2 weeks mainly being a coaching trip for planetFear, on our ‘rest days’ Steve Maclure and i hooked up & I climbed tons of classics managing to onsight 7b+ and really started to feel fit. Since then I’ve been training hard for Hueco, where I fly on Jan 17th. The start to my bouldering training began without much planning on 'Out of My Tree', 8a at Raven Tor in October. The start is a 7b boulder problem and I realised that the big moves suited me – it was just a case of getting the next crux move. After 2 days of working that move I arrived back at the crag, raining as ever, but once I dried out the holds with chalk, somehow my fingers managed to stick and my body held its tension for move 6, the crux of this incredibly short route. I was surprised that I could get my body to respond so quickly to such powerful climbing. Since then I’ve spent more time training, but I managed a couple of classics including Ben’s Groove 7a+ at Caley, possibly the best boulder problem I’ve done all year. A trip to Cresciano followed with another quick ascent of the beautiful groove next to Arcadia called Vaca Loca 7b. In December I came very close to Jess’s roof (7c) Almscliff, fumbling the second to last hold. Since then its been raining non-stop so that’ll have to wait until I return from the States."
