Kath warming up in the Hueco sun....

Katherine Schirrmacher - catch up + video

12/04/2007

Just in from Katherine Schirrmacher, some of her latest exploits including her trip to Hueco, where she gathered some impressive ticks, as well as some of the newer highlights in the UK - sounds like she's cranking.....

Katherine warming up in the amazing scenery at North Mountain....

" Well it all seems a long time ago since I returned from Hueco. Following my first email I continued to climb well and really got into the cellar board style of pulling down. The sun finally replaced the snow and rain, more Brits left but others arrived – there must have been a core of about 15 of us.

So back to the climbing… I continued on my classic trail with Baby Face V7, Something Different V8 and Mr Serious V8. I did some other V8s and I was really pleased to tick Man Gum, a crimpy V9.

And for 3 Thursdays in a row we poured down to "Esther’s again", literally a shack in the middle of nowhere to belt out some karaoke classics. I managed an embarrassingly high number of songs including Irene Cara ‘What a feeling’ and a memorable duet of ‘Don’t go breaking my heart’ with Chris Doyle. (Wow Hueco rocks!! ED).

At the end I was fairly broken, but managed to recover in time to get a bit of walking practice in for my forthcoming Mountain Leader Assessment. We were greeted with beautiful weather back home and on my first weekend back I found myself on the Snowdon Horseshoe.

Since then I’ve managed to pass my mountain leader assessment and after even more walking I can get on the MIA training… The glorious weather has held out and I managed Jess’s Roof at Almscliff a great 7c boulder problem. The 2 days on it before actually doing it, I kept touching the final hold but not quite getting it so I was glad to latch it.

Now I’ve taken my bouldering a bit higher up, dangling around on Balance it is (E76c) at Burbage South. Yesterday I managed a good clean top rope but, then after trying again on top rope to place the crucial wire I kept falling. It was very windy and in totally the wrong direction. So I shall continue on with this – I’m taking it slow and steady.
There’s no rush for now as its pretty much always in the shade."

Thanks for the update Katherine and good look on Balance It Is....and amazing route and a great tick if you can get it...
