What Wild Country doesn't know about cams could be written on a postage stamp....however, what we do know is much harder to get over in the written form without it being very long confusing and difficult to understand. However, we felt that it was very important the people understood cams and camming better as it will make their climbing safer if the principles of how a Friend actually worked could be imparted. Also by understanding cams it would be easier to see why Friends - Forged Techs and Zeros - worked as well as they do and retain their place at the top of the evolutionary tree. That's why in 2003 we published 'the Cam Book' which laid out the principles of camming in a format we felt people would be able to understand. This contained not only the whys and wherefores of How Friends Work, but also a lot of advice in terms of the 'do's and dont's' of placing and maintaining cams. Therefore in this Friends and Camming section we have tried to distill this information into useable and understandable bits size pieces so that they can be grasped and taken on board. So this info has been broken down into three sections: How Cams Work - the complicated bit about why Friends save your bacon. Friends Usage - simple information about how to use your Tech and Forged Friends - for more info on Zeros go to Zeros Use Strength and Function Safety and Maintenance - the boring bit about looking after them.
