Another area where Wild Country has proven to excel over the years is in providing a selection of simple but very effective tools in the three areas which are key to most climbers across a wide range of disciplines. Belay - Often, half the battle on a route when you need to 'go for it', is to have faith in your partner and their ability to catch you if you fall. The art of belaying correctly and positively is encouraged by Wild Country and our design of devices recognises this. The secret in any belay device is to combine the three essentials well: paying out, holding a fall and abseiling and the art is in being able to do all three with one device on a variety of ropes in a mix of circumstances. And once again, tho' the battle with gravity was the same it seemed to take place more often....and thus the SRC was born to give a super safe stop but with a feather soft landing. Ascent - As often as not by the time you come to use the type of ascenders Wild Country make i.e. small but perfectly formed, you're in a position you'd rather not be in. That's why it's essential that these devices are built to a standard that mens they can be asily carried as the perfect 'emergency tool' and when needed work to perfection. The Ropeman MK1 become a worldwide success due to it's ability to replace prussik loops for the first time at nearly the same weight, while the Ropeman Mk2 enhanced its range of uses. Descent - The belay devices mentioned above, VC and VC Pro are obviously designed to be used for descending as well as belaying and Wild Country have been particularly keen to make sure that they excel at this as well. Indeed getting the balance right betwen paying out easily and having enough grip to abseil well was the biggest headache in designing the new VC Pro....however Wild Country also make a more specialist tool as well the Light 8 - one of the lightest and neatest 8's on the market.
