Brandon Pullan (Canada)
Here's some more about Brandon Pullan – Canadian Climber - in his own words....and someone elses too...
“How easy, and how tempting, to forsake one’s freedom for beauty” – Maurice Herzog
'I am a Canadian climber. With my roots in Southern Ontario I learned the way of the rock on the steep basalt cliff bands in Thunder Bay. Making trips to Quebec and New England I eventually made my way to Western Canada after 4 years of university.
Idolizing the ‘hardman’ of yesteryear : Urs Kallen, Brian Greenwood and the modern day alpinists, Barry Blanchard, Rob Owens and Raphael Slawinski. I aspire to climb big, pure lines in remote regions.
I am not on the 5.14 calorie watching, bolt clipping or V12 mission, although I admire these hard climbers. Rather I am looking for adventure up hard, steep, snowy faces such as the ones I am surrounded by where I live now: Canmore, Alberta.
The Canadian Rockies offer some of the most serious routes in North America. Although they are no higher then 3500m give or take they are filled with objective hazards and the rock is at best sub par – Limestone piles of choss best climbed when cold!
Just around the corner are the Bugaboos, my favorite local, and Squamish granite is only a day away.
Although I think grades and technique are second to a climbers judgment and style I know my sends of WI6, 5.13 and A3 will come in hand when adventuring in the mountains.
“A rare breed practicing a mysterious craft, far from the madding crowd on silent and lonely heights” – B. Fairly
