Some Words About Cheryl

Cheryl grew up in California, where she was introduced to climbing while scrambling on rocks in the Mojave dessert. She was immediately hooked and has continually honed her technique and increased in strength over the past ten years.

After spending her formative years in the western United States, Cheryl moved to New Hampshire to pursue college and then medical school at Dartmouth. Rumney, NH quickly became her home crag. Although she has travelled to climbing areas around the US, Canada, and Mexico, Rumney has remained her favorite place to climb, and she is well suited to its mix of power and endurance.

Some of her favorite routes there are King Cobra, Suburban Surfer, and Whiptide. Cheryl loves sport climbing and considers herself to be primarily a sport climber, but has begun to boulder quite a bit over the last few years and is enjoying that as well. Although Medical School has limited her free time considerably, she has continued to climb extensively with her husband and climbing partner Mike Pirozzi.

Her most recent sends include Dark Star (5.13d) at Rumney and the Left and Right Sits to Straight Again (both V9) at Lincoln Woods, RI. Cheryl is currently in her final year at Brown Medical School in Providence, RI. She will be graduating in May and beginning a residency in Internal Medicine. She plans to continue to push her climbing to new levels in this coming year.
