Kyle McCabe (US)

"Kyle Mc Cabe, a junior in high school, resides in Merrimack New Hampshire. He began climbing with his sister’s encouragement in September of 2000. Shortly after that he joined Cliffhangers, Boulder Mortys climbing team, and began competing. Currently, he is a certified National Route Setter and Coaches Metro Rock’s climbing team with his long time coach, Steve Buck.

While competing, Kyle accomplishments included being first in the US in 2003 for Difficulty and Speed. In 2002 he was eight in the World for speed. At the international competition in 2002, Kyle ranked fourth in difficulty. In 2002 and 2003, he was captain of the second best team in the nation, Boulder Mortys’ Cliffhangers and in 2004 and 2005; he (along with Steve Buck) was their coach ranking second and third respectively. He was also a member of the US Climbing Team in 2002, 2003 and 2004.

Currently, Kyle climbs outdoors for fun and the love of the sport. He reports his most challenging onsight as Neptune (5.13a). His hardest redpoints include Dr. No (5.14) and Parallel Universe (5.14b) which took 7 tries but he has the fastest ascent to date.

Kyle also enjoys bouldering. He lists, minio (v9), Biceps (v9) and La Battdir (v9) as his most challenging onsights. He was the first person to boulder Dr. No (14a). He also has the first ascent of Royal Gorge speed route (5.11) in two hours and thirty minutes.

Besides multiple route setting jobs and setting for fundraising competitions, Kyle works for his family’s landscaping business (McCabe Design), participates on the Merrimack High School Track team as a pole-vaulter, snowboards and enjoys relaxing with his cows."
