Forged Friend Placements

Forged Friends are the original cams and have been used across the globe on some of the most groundbreaking ascents; from The Phoenix to Seperate Reality these cams turned dreams into reality. And although they are not on general sale they are still are valued and valuble piece of kit and it's worth knowing about them if someone loans you one - or you still have them in your rack.

In terms of placements, as a general rule, Forged Friends are equally adept and as safe as Techical Friends - however, there are times when more care needs to be taken and so in this download we run through some general tips. Also when placing Forged Friends in horizontal placements the safest practice is to always use a “Gunk’s tie off” - see the PDf at the bottom of the page.

Technical and Helium Friend Placements

Technical Friends were the precursors to Helium Friends and they were launched as the second stage of evolution after Forged Friends. As expected when they came on the scene they did away with many of the caveats concerning Friend placements that we have discussed above. The new flexibility that was built into the stem enabled much more radical placements to be made and the horizontal crack no longer held such terrors.

However, they still must not be taken for granted and there are still important points to be made. The first is that flexibility did not make the cams indestructable and that like with all kit even though they are fairly simple to use, understanding and practice makes things easier better and safer.
